Fannett-Metal Shuts Out Southern Huntington 5-0

Fannett-Metal pitcher Wyatt Appleby took the ball tonight against visiting Southern Huntingdon in an ICC match-up and held the Rocket offense to only four hits to earn the shutout victory. The Tiger Senior surrendered one walk and had 6 strikeouts on his way to a dominating performance.

The Tigers offensively had runners on every inning against the Rockets hard throwing right hander Zach Baird, but they didn’t plate any runs until the 4th inning.

Wyatt Appleby hit a high fly ball to right field that was dropped by the right fielder to start the big 4th inning.  Appleby was hustling out of the box and reached second to get the inning started.   Courtesy Runner Broc Hostler moved up on a passed ball and scored when Rylin Sharar struck out and the ball got away from the catcher.  Sharar ended up on 1st. Colton Friese bunted Sharar to 2nd.  Hunter Hill was a hit by a pitch.  Sharar scored when Drew Goshorn laid down a bunt that was thrown away.  Alex Umbrell then unloaded on a 2 run double to the gap to score both Hill and Goshorn.

The Tigers added a run in the 5th to secure the 5-0 victory.  The win ends a three game losing skid by the Tigers and raises their record to 8-4 on the season.  “Wyatt pitched a gem tonight.  He commanded all his pitches and we played solid defense behind him.  We needed a big win to get us back on track, and it’s probably been ten years or so since we have beaten Southern Huntingdon”, Coach Paul Coffman said.

The Tigers travel to Tussey Mountain on Thursday for their third straight game of the week.
