Greencastle-Antrim 10, Red Land 0: Mackenzie Wingert had the Blue Devils’ best pitching performance of the season Friday afternoon — a four-hit shutout — to lead her team over the Patriots in a non-league home game.
“It seems we are playing more relaxed these last couple of games,” Greencastle coach Mark DeCarli said. “We’re going to take them one at a time. The season is far from over and the girls know that we’re still alive.”
Wingert (3-2) struck out only one batter, but gave Red Land only one walk and scattered four hits in her five innings of work.
Sydney Orndorff went 3-for-3 and scored 3 runs for the second consecutive game from her leadoff spot in the batting order. Meadow Gambacurta and Abby Stouffer each had two hits and Emma Broadwater drove in three runs.
The Blue Devils (6-8) already led 4-0 when they tallied six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a huge lead. Bailey Leckron, Orndorff (bunt) and Wingert hit consecutive singles to load the bases. After an out, Makayla Jerin punched a base hit to drive in two runs. Stouffer singled to load the bases again, and Emma Broadwater singled to centerfield to plate two more runs. The scoring concluded when Brianna Woodring smacked a triple to bring in Stouffer and Broadwater.
