Fannett-Metal Eliminated in the Altoona Curve Classic

Fannett-Metal(7-3, 6-2 ICC) participated in the annual  Altoona Curve Classic where they dropped two games today.  The Tigers first round game was at 10:00 am this morning against Northern Bedford.

The Black Panthers struck first in the 3rd inning with two runs and then added two more unearned runs in the 4th to take a 4-0 lead.  The Tigers struggled to make solid contact until the 5th inning when they scored 3 runs to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the inning, Drew Goshorn, Jake Coffman and Landon Arnold had RBI singles.  The Black Panthers added 3 insurance runs in the 7th to secure the victory.  “We didn’t put much pressure on them defensively in this game.  We just hit too many pop ups” Coffman said.

Luke Coffman started and took the loss for the Tigers.   He pitched 6+ innings and gave up 6 runs(4ER) on 9 hits.  He had 2 BB and 3 K.  “ Luke stranded 11 runners through 6 innings.   He executed some great pitches at key times to keep the game close”, Coffman said.  Alex Umbrell pitched the 7th.  Reese Musselman threw a complete game for the Black Panthers.

In game two today at 3:30, the Tigers squared off against Bishop Guilfoyle.  The Tigers battled in this game but they just couldn’t keep up with the B-G offense. “We made some outstanding defensive plays in this game, but we also had some bad errors at crucial times to extend innings”, Coffman said.

Wyatt Appleby started and took the loss.  He pitched 5 innings and gave up 9 runs(6ER) on 9 hits.  He had 3 BB and 3 K.  Alex Umbrell pitched the final 2 innings and gave up 7 runs(5ER) on 7 hits.

Landon Arnold had a pair of hits, 2 stolen bases and scored 2 runs to lead the offense.  Luke Coffman, Wyatt Appleby, Rylin Sharar, and Hunter Hill added hits for the Tigers.  Drew Goshorn and Luke Coffman each scored a pair of runs.

“What a great opportunity this was for our players to play in such a prestigious tournament.  We didn’t get the results we were looking for today but these boys will look back some day and realize how fortunate they were to play in that stadium”, Coffman said.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday for an ICC league game at Southern Fulton.
