The Tigers (7-1, 6-1 ICC) hosted McConnellsburg for a league conference game and came away with a 11-10 victory. The win moves the Tigers record to (7-1) on the season and keeps the Tigers within one game of first place Southern Fulton in the ICC South.
Mcconnellsburg capitalized on a pair of errors in the first inning to jump out to an early 4-1 lead after one inning. Wyatt Hershey’s two run homer was the big hit for the Spartans.
In the second inning the Spartans added a run, but the Tigers struck for three runs to close the gap to 5-4 after two innings. Colton Friese led off with a single, Hunter Hill reached on an error and Alex Umbrell was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Drew Goshorn smacked a double to score Friese and Hill, and Umbrell scored on Jake Coffman’s Sac Fly.
The Spartans added two runs in the 3rd to a take a 7-4 lead but the Tigers put together a big inning to score four runs to take the lead. Landon Arnold led off with a single, stole second and scored on a Rylin Sharar single. Sharar eventually scored on a Friese sac fly. Hill and Umbrell both reached base and scored to give the Tigers the lead. “We manufactured some runs in this inning with great base running and putting the ball in play”, Coffman said.”
The Spartans would score a pair of runs in the 4th and a run in the 5th to take a 10-8 lead. This set up another comeback win for the Tigers. In the 6th, Jake Coffman reached on an error and Luke Coffman followed with a line drive hit up the middle. Landon Arnold singled to load the bases. Wyatt Appleby hit a sac fly to score Jake Coffman, and Rylin Sharar laid down a squeeze to score Luke Coffman. Colton Friese gave the Tigers an 11-10 lead with a towering double to score Arnold.
Friese entered the game in the 7th and got the save. He gave up a lead off single but got a ground out and two strikeouts to get the save. “ Colton looked very strong in the 7th”, Coffman said. Landon Arnold started and pitched 3 innings. He gave up 7 runs( 2 ER), on 4 hits, 4 BB and 3 K. Wyatt Appleby pitched the middle 3 innings to get the win. He surrendered 3 runs on 6 hits. For the Spartans, Wyatt Hershey went the distance and took the loss.
Offensively, Luke Coffman, Landon Arnold and Colton Friese each had a pair of hits to lead the Tigers. Drew Goshorn had 3 RBI’s. Landon Ramsey had three hits to lead the Spartans and Gavin Fowler added a pair of hits.
The Tigers will play this weekend in the annual Altoona Curve Classic Tournament held at PNG park. Their first game will be on Friday against league foe Northern Bedford at 10:00 am. They are guaranteed two games in the tournament which features eight teams.
