5 teams qualify for Dist. 3 basketball playoffs

Five Franklin County teams have qualified for the District 3 basketball playoffs, which begin next Monday and Tuesday, and all five will host first-round games.

Here is information about those teams and their pairings:

CHAMBERSBURG BOYS: The Trojans (16-5) received the No. 6 seed in the Class 6A field, with three losses to end the season dropping them from No. 2. Chambersburg will host No. 11 Red Lion (18-5) in a first-round game on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. The winner faces No. 3 Central Dauphin (15-4) on the road Friday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. The top 7 teams in 6A advance to states.

— SHIPPENSBURG BOYS: The Greyhounds earned the No. 3 position in Class 5A. Shippensburg (16-2) will host No. 14 Octorara (14-8) on Monday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. The winner faces the winner of No. 11 Lower Dauphin (11-11) at No. 6 Elizabethtown (13-9) on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at the higher seed’s gym. The top nine teams will reach the PIAA playoffs.

GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM GIRLS: The Blue Devil girls will have gone 18 days between games when they host No. 14 Hershey (10-12) on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. Greencastle (17-3) is the No. 3 seed in Class 5A. The winner plays Friday, Feb. 25 against the winner of No. 11 West Perry (13-9) at No. 6 Lower Dauphin (13-9) at 7 p.m. That quarterfinal will be at the higher seed. The top eight teams reach states.

JAMES BUCHANAN GIRLS: The Rockets earned a first-round home game in Class 4A on Tuesday, Feb. 22. The No. 8 seed Rockets (16-6) will take on No. 9 Bishop McDevitt (16-6) at 7 p.m. The winner will play at No. 1 Delone Catholic (21-0) on Friday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. The top eight teams reach the state tournament.

WAYNESBORO BOYS: The Indians (17-4) captured the No. 8 seed in the 6A playoffs and will host No. 9 Wilson (14-7) in a first-round game on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. The winner will play Friday, Feb. 25 at the No. 1 seed, Reading (19-3), at 7 p.m. The top seven teams will enter the PIAA playoffs.
