Chambersburg roundup: CV throttles Trojan wrestlers

Cumberland Valley 42, Chambersburg 20: The Eagles won 6 of 7 bouts in the middle of the Mid Penn Commonwealth meet Thursday night at CV and rolled to a victory over the Trojans.

Chambersburg (3-2, 0-1 MPC) jumped into an 8-0 advantage as Zach Evans (215) scored a technical fall and Avery Kuhns (285) won a 5-0 decision.

But CV (7-2, 1-1 MPC) got a big win at 106, with Connor Killion winning 10-5 over Zach Sherman, a forfeit win, and another 10-5 decision for Jake Mitchell over Rylan Carter at 120.

Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said, “Zach wrestled really well against a good kid and he had him on his back, but they said he was out of bounds. Rylan was right in that match, but was outscored 4-0 in the last period.”

Luke Mentzer’s 4-0 decision brought Chambersburg to within 12-11,m but Cumberland Valley ripped off four consecutive pins to put he match away. Ryder Davenport scored a pin at 160 for the Trojans and Aiden Hight closed out the meet with a 2-1 decision at 189.

“We wrestled tough tonight, but we’ve got to get better,” Mentzer said.
