Chambersburg 37, Waynesboro 27: The Trojans ran off seven consecutive victories to create an insurmountable lead and defeated the Indians for the second time this season in a non-league meet Wednesday night in Waynesboro.
The teams’ last meeting, at the Spring Grove Duals, was a 45-17 win for Chambersburg, which was missing a couple of starters last night.
“It was nice for our guys to be back on the mat — we haven’t competed since Trojan Wars,” Chambersburg coach Matt Mentzer said. “It was good to see where we are at.”
The Trojans (3-1) spotted ‘Boro a 6-0 lead, then rang up five straight pins to take a 30-6 advantage. Ryder Davenport (172), Zach Evans (215) and Zach Sherman (113) each scored first-period falls, while Aiden Hight (189) and Avery Kuhns (285) notched pins in the second period.
At 126, Luke Mentzer also scored a bonus point with a 10-0 major decision.
The best matchup of the night came at 120 with Chambersburg’s Rylan Carter meeting Jayden Rooney for the third time this year, each having won once. This time Carter got the best of Rooney, scoring a 12-5 victory, which included five takedowns.
Coach Mentzer said, “Carter wrestled an excellent match against Rooney. He was aggressive for six minutes and kept the pressure on him.
“I thought Andrew Hull (4-3 loss to Robert Howard) did a great job at 152. He fought off his back and saved us team points.”
For the Indians (5-7), James Crutchfield (160), Garrett Price (132), Bodie Rouzer (138) and Kaden Rouzer (145) each scored a pin.
