BOYS SWIMMING
Hershey 122, Chambersburg 43: Chambersburg was able to come up with one event victory Tuesday afternoon in a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat to a perennially strong Hershey team on the road.

Derek Estep swam to first place in the 200 freestyle event, clocking a time of 1:48.52.

He also placed second in the 100 butterfly (52.10), and Brandon Estep picked up a pair of runner-up finishes — in the 20 0IM (2:04.88) and 100 backstroke (54.99). Joseph Decker took third in the 200 (1:56.72) and 500 free (5:15.26).

“The boys swam well, with many season bests,” Trojan coach Chad White said. “Hershey is very experienced and one of the better teams in the district. It was great to see us contest some events, and for Derek to get a win in the 200 free. Brandon put together a great time in the backstroke and Joseph is starting to get his endurance back for the 200 and 500 races.”

Chambersburg (1-2, 1-2 MPC) was also second in the 400 free relay,  which included the Esteps, Decker and Jacob Shifler, in 3:28.39.

Chambersburg (1-2, 1-2 MPC) picked up five individual runner-up places, and one relay team took second.

Lily Evans swam 2:06.62 to place second in the 200 freestyle and was also second in the 100 free (57.99), Layne Rydbom was the runner-up in the 200 IM in 2:17.83, McKenzie Wicks picked up second in the 50 free in 27.49 and Kayla Wolfe came in second in the 100 backstroke.

In addition, the 200 freestyle relay team of Rydbom, Hailey Fegan, Evans and Maddie Shifler turned in a time of 1:15.40 to take second. Shifler (200, 500 free), Abby Caltrider (50 free), Fegan (fly), Audrey Kough (back) and Rydbom (breaststroke) all placed third.

“I was really proud of the fight I saw in the girls — there were a lot of close races and it was great to get in a yard pool to see how we’re progressing,” Trojan coach Hali Cormany said. “Lily Evans had a great meet with two best times, Kayla Wolfe is getting faster every meet and had a nice finish in the backstroke. Our relays are really coming together as well.”
