But the No. 2 seed, Hempfield, proved to be a hurdle the Trojans could not cross.

The Black Knight scored 3-0 shutout over Chambersburg on Thursday evening in a first-round match. While the Trojans finish their season with a 10-8 record, Hempfield (15-0) will host No. 7 Hershey (13-1) in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

“Hempfield is really solid and they execute extremely well offensively and from the service line,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “We fought hard the entire match, but in the end it wasn’t enough.”

The Black Knights won games of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-13.

Trinity Rivera had 3 service points, 5 kills and a block for the Trojans. Emily Marquez put up 12 digs and 2 points, Kate Etter had 8 assists and a block, Ashli Ganoe led with 4 points and had 8 assists and Raelyn Johnson had 4 kills and 12 digs.

Frelin said, “They kept us out of system all match and we just struggled to get in any kind of rhythm. But it’s hard to do that when you’re constantly fighting from behind.”
