Grant Hopple

Last week: The Trojans (2-6, 0-5 MPC) were beaten 40-7 by CD East … Chambersburg has scored only 4 touchdowns in the last 3 games and is averaging only 13.5 points per game … Opponents are averaging 31.8 points per game … The only points last week came on a 65-yard pass from Jermere Jones to Rhaigeon Parker, but it was Jones’ only pass attempt — he was limited in his play because of team rules … Riley Harmon was 7-for-22 for 60 yards … “You’ll see more of Jones this week, but it will probably be back-and-forth,” Chambersburg coach Mark Luther said …  CV (3-5, 2-3 MPC) was defeated by Harrisburg, 45-7, but the Eagles have wins over three teams that have wins over the Trojans — Spring-Ford, Carlisle and Altoona.
The Trojans: Bryce Folmar may play some at wide receiver this week, in addition to his duties at safety … “He’s a good athlete and hard to keep off the field,” Luther said … Luther was impressed with the play of LB Grant Hopple last week … “He played a great game and had some big plays early,” he said of Hopple … LB Shea Makosy had his third interception of the season and recovered a fumble vs. East … Jones has connected on 47 of 84 passes (56%) for 844 yards, 9 TDs and 7 interceptions … He also leads the rushers with 70 carries for 307 yards … Parker is the top receiver, with 15 catches for 342 yards and 3 TDs … Andy Jean-Baptiste has caught 13 balls for 167 yards and a TD.
The Eagles: Luther said of CV, “They are a better team this year — they’re playing with more confidence on O and D.” … Last week, CV inserted freshman QB Kaden Schoenly into the mix and used regular QB Isaac Sines at wideout … Luther said, “We don’t know what they’ll do this week, so it’ll be a challenge for us. Sines is dangerous running the ball, but the freshman stays in the pocket more. They are solid up front on both sides of the ball.” … The Trojans have defeated CV for two straight seasons … CV’s top rusher is J.D. Hunter and Griffin Huffman is the top receiver, although Bryce Staretz had 68 yards on 18 carries last week.
Coach’s viewpoint: “Is this a game that we can go and compete in? Yeah, I think so,” Luther said. “But we have to be able to move the football better than we have. The way we’ve been lately, it makes it tough to win a game.”
