The Shippensburg Greyhounds delighted the homecoming crowd and took control of the Mid Penn Colonial Friday night with a convincing 21-3 win over Northern York.

The Greyhounds, (7-0, 4-0 MPC) recovered a fumble on the open kickoff and two plays later Nathan Beam scored from 4 yards out to give Shippensburg a 7-0 lead barely a minute into the game.

Later in the first quarter facing a fourth down with the ball at the Polar Bear 38, QB Tucker Chamberlin hit teammate Anthony Smith in stride for a 38 yard touchdown.  Noah Henry added the extra point for a 14-0 lead.

Northern York, (4-2, 2-1 MPC) got on the board in the second quarter on a 36 yard field goal from Mason Yohn.

Shippensburg’s defense took over in the second half, continually denying the Polar Bears any momentum.

The back breaker came mid-way of the fourth quarter when Anthony Smith recovered a Polar Bear fumble and on the next play Traevon Kater took the hand-off from Chamberlin and broke through the line for a 44 yard touchdown run.  The extra point by Henry completed the scoring.

Shippensburg limited the Polar Bear offense to 123 total yards and took the ball away 4 times, 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries.

On offense, Beam and Kater both recorded 64 rushing yards. Chamberlin finished 4-12-0 for 52 yards and a touchdown.

The Greyhounds face a road test next Friday when they travel to West Perry before returning home for the final two games of the regular season.
