WEST YORK — Ella Lowry of Waynesboro and Heather Sanbower of Chambersburg have extended their high school golf seasons by placing high enough in the District 3 Championships to qualify for the PIAA Championships.
Lowry shot 79 on Saturday and placed third in the Class 3A girls event at Honey Run Golf Club. She birdied No. 3, but finished nine shots back of the winner, Makensy Knaub of Dallastown. Sanbower posted a score of 87 to finish in a tie for eighth place. The PIAA tournament is Oct. 18-19 at Heritage Hills in York.
The other girl competing on Saturday was Sydney Barnes of Greencastle-Antrim. She shot 101 and did not qualify.
On the boys side, Waynesboro’s Dylan Byers and Tyler Fortney were both close to making the cut but fell just short. Byers shot an 80, two strokes short of advancing, and Fortney posted an 81.
