Last week: The Blue Devils defeated Delone Catholic 35-13 to raise their record to 2-1 … G-A spotted the Squires the first touchdown, then ran up 35 straight points … RB Tavon Cooper scored on a pair of long runs and QB Taylor Conrad also scored on a pair of TD runs … Safety Ethan Shank had a pair of interceptions and safety Lorcan Wright made 19 tackles … East Pennsboro (2-1) won a close game, 30-26, over Milton Hershey.
The Blue Devils: Conrad has thrown the ball 27 times, with 14 completions for 187 yards, 3 TDs and 1 interception … David Niebauer is the top rusher with 48 carries for 264 yards … Cooper has 30 carries for 196 yards and has snagged 8 passes for 85 yards … Shank has only 2 catches, but both have gone for TDs, for 118 yards … Wright leads in tackles with 34, Shank has 30 and LB Jake Yelton has 29 … G-A coach Devin McCauley said, “We have created an ID with our running, spreading out the carries and giving them different looks. We feel we have some things we can exploit this week. We need to score some points this week, and we have that ability.”
The Panthers: Sy Burgos leads East Penn’s attack … He has 40 carries for 451 yards in the 2 games he’s played in … McCauley said, “(Burgos) will be a challenge — he’s the best running back we’ve seen all year. He’s not big, but he has legit track speed and great balance, so it’s tough to get a clean hit on him. They have good complimentary pieces, but the key to beating them is stopping No. 12.” … Panthers QB Keith Oates has completed 24 of 46 passes for 312 yards, 1 TD and 1 pick … The top receivers are Breckin Swope (7 catches, 130 yards) and Trey Good (6-89, 1 TD) … On defense, Caden Holmes (16) and Devin Shepherd (15) are the top tacklers … East Penn’s secondary has picked off 6 passes.
Coach’s viewpoint: “The strength of our defense is our secondary,” McCauley said. “We have two safeties and two corners who tackle extremely well. That’s a big factor. They take good angles and that helps keep the big plays to a minimum, and that’s something we need to do Friday night.”
