Fleetwood 3, Chambersburg 2: The Trojans came up a bit short in the final of the East-West Classic Tournament in Berks County on Saturday.
“Fleetwood came to play today and we didn’t,” Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. “It was a really good learning experience for some of our young guys today with how emotional the game can be. Last night we played one of our best games, and today was our worst. It happens; that’s soccer.”
The Tigers (2-0) held a 9-7 advantage in shots.
Cole Myers scored on a free kick for the first goal by the Trojans (1-1), and Ayden Findley scored the second, assisted by Cristian Lopez.
Chambersburg Tournament: The Trojans defeated West Perry 2-0 in the first round and were scheduled to face Greencastle-Antrim (an 8-0 winner over Susquehanna Twp.) in the final later, but that game was postponed, because of an issue getting referees, until Monday night at 7:30 at Trojan Stadium.
Ahsia Thomas netted both of Chambersburg’s goals, one unassisted, and one assisted by Aubrey Pyne. Goalkeeper Bridget Kemerer had to make only one save.
Trojan coach Ed Franchi said, “The girls played a good game and possessed the ball very well. We did a lot of good things. But the bottom line is we need to find the back of the net more often. The good thing is we created many opportunities, but we should have scored more than two goals.”
