Chambersburg rdp: Girls tennis team drops tight opener

Northeastern 3, Chambersburg 2:
Northeastern captured both doubles matches — one in 3 sets — to hand the Trojans a narrow defeat in the season opener on Tuesday.

Sarah Vessah

Chambersburg was able to take two of the three singles matches, as No. 1 Sarah Vessah won 6-2, 6-1 and No. 3 Avery Wissinger was victorious in a close one, 7-6, 6-4. At No. 2, Ridglee Flohr fell 6-1, 6-4.

“Vessah completely dominated her opponent,” Trojan coach Josh Barwin said, “and Wissinger played really well and outlasted hers. She had some clutch serves at the end. Flohr played her heart out and almost took the second set.”

At No. 1 doubles, Reese Miller and Sophie Forrester were defeated 6-4, 6-3, while at No. 2, Aspen Kimberly and Grace Fiegl split the first two sets, winning 6-3 in the second, before falling 6-2 in the final set.

Barwin said, “Kimberly and Fiegl played well together and just need more reps. Miller and Forrester played their first match together and it showed, but they will build chemistry each day.”
