G-A roundup: Baseball team hands Hounds 3-1 defeat

Greencastle-Antrim 3, Shippensburg 1: Thanks to one swing of the bat by Andrew Kerns, the Blue Devils came out on top of a pitchers’ duel against the Greyhounds in a Mid Penn Colonial game Tuesday afternoon.

Andrew Kerns

Darren Kline led off the top of the second inning against Shippensburg pitcher Tucker Chamberlin and drew a walk, followed by a single from Aidan Grudzinski. Kerns then unloaded a three-run home run to left to put G-A ahead for good..

Kerns was also the starting pitcher for Greencastle (6-1, 4-1 MPC) and was sailing along with a three-hit shutout into the sixth and struck out the first two batters. But a hit batter, a single by Erby Weller and another hit batter loaded the bases.

He then gave up an RBI single to Nathan Beam on a grounder to deep short, but Logan Layton relieved and got the final four outs for a save. Layton had three strikeouts and Kerns racked up eight and they walked only one batter between them.

For Ship (4-3), Chamberlin allowed just five hits — one a double by Logan Horst — walked three and fanned 11.
