NEW KINGSTOWN — Julia Strine entered the PIAA Swimming Championships on Saturday afternoon as the No. 1 seed in the Class 3A 100 breaststroke.
She finished the day in the same place, and she also had a shiny gold medal to show off for her efforts.
Strine, a senior at Shippensburg, bettered her seed time and claimed first place in the PIAA meet at Cumberland Valley High School.
The Greyhound star finished her race with a time of 1:02.33, which bettered her school-record seed time of 1:02.61 she swam two weeks in winning a District 3 title.
The runner-up was Kennett’s Sydney McCracken, who hit the wall in 1:02.62.
The only other area competitor was Waynesboro senior Lauren Wetzel, who competed in the 200 IM race. She held the seventh seed coming in, but was not able to hit that time Saturday and ended up taking 12th place in a time of 2:06.99.
