Shippensburg’s Julia Strine will have a little target on her back Saturday at the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Strine, a senior, has posted the best time in the Class 3A girls 100 breaststroke event heading into states. That will put her in the fast heat and in a middle lane for the race.
3A girls competition will be held Saturday morning and afternoon at Cumberland Valley High School. Strine’s event should be completed shortly before 2 p.m.
Strine swam her time of 1:02.61 while winning a District 3 title earlier in March at the same pool.
The next-best time has been posted by Sydney McCracken of Kennett, 1:03.54.
Strine is one of only two Franklin County swimmers who qualified for the state meet, which reduced the number of qualifying swimmers by half this year because of the pandemic.
Waynesboro senior Lauren Wetzel will be in the fast heat in the 3A girls 200 IM. She has the seventh-best time, 2:05.82.
The top time in the field is 2:02.45 by Molly Smyers of North Allegheny. The 200 IM will finish around 11:30 a.m.
