G-A roundup: Blue Devils beat JB to remain unbeaten and boys & girls hoops

Greencastle-Antrim 71, James Buchanan 41: The Blue Devils outscored the rival Rockets in each quarter Tuesday night and earned a Mid Penn Colonial Division victory on the road.

“It was a great team victory,” Greencastle coach Rick Lewis said. “We had very balanced scoring and we are getting better defensively every game.”

Two G-A big men carried the scoring, as Zach Cole totaled 15 points and Adam Root put in 14. But three players also scored 9 points each — Adam Murr, Tim Ehko and Thomas Lewis.

The Blue Devils (4-0, 3-0 MPC) led 19-11 after one quarter and pushed their lead to 42-28 by scoring JB 21-7 in the third period.

For the Rockets, Jayce Piper connected for 13 points, Rylan Good contributed 10 and Cade Layton added 8.

Greencastle-Antrim 64, James Buchanan 22: The Blue Devils’ pressure defense racked up 21 steals for the second straight game and did not allow the Rockets to reach double figures in scoring in any quarter on their way to a big Mid Penn Colonial victory Tuesday night at home.

Greencastle (3-0, 2-0 MPC) put 10 players in the scoring column, led by Mia Libby’s 22-point spree — a career-high effort — and 15 points from Sayge Wilhide, all on 3-pointers. Libby also had 7 steals, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Wilhide had 4 assists and held the Rockets’ leading scorer, MacKenzie Stoner, to just 4 points.

Also for the Blue Devils, Lauren Pool had 6 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals, and Haley Noblit produced 6 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.

For the Rockets, Carly Sollenberger totaled 10 points.
