CARLISLE – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers opened their boys basketball season by thumping Carlisle Christian 76-48 Tuesday in a non-league game.
Senior Caleb Eckert contributed his first career triple-double to lead the Blazers. Eckert would up with 29 points, 25 rebounds and 11 assists.
“We moved the ball well with 22 assists and really just came out with a lot of energy,” Blazers coach Austin Sanders said. “Caleb was great with his first triple double and was an absolute beast on the boards.”
Senior Blaine Minnier scored 17 points, senior Isaac Kauffeldt added 15 and junior Josh Rowe scored 11. Also scoring was senior Ryan Winters with four points. Sophomore point guard Nollin Egolf missed the game with an illness.
“Obviously this was our first game of the season and really our first time playing someone else other than the JV squad,” Sanders said. “We had to change some things up since we didn’t have Nollin, but I thought we came out strong defensively, only allowing 14 points at half. We weren’t perfect and there are definitely some areas defensively that we need to work on, but I’m excited for this season and I’m excited to see how well these guys play as we move along.”
The Blazers piled up quarter leads of 25-5, 41-14, and 56-34.
