G-A roundup: JB knocks Blue Devils out of playoffs with 3-0 defeat

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
James Buchanan 3, Greencastle 0: In the Blue Devils’ season finale Thursday night, James Buchanan captured a three-set match in Mid Penn Colonial play.

The Rockets won games of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-21. G-A, which needed a victory to qualify for the District 3 playoffs, finishes the season with a 9-4 record (8-4 MPC).

Greencastle coach Corry Eagler said, “It was not the way we envisioned the season ending. JB kept the ball in play and we struggled with passing and serving. When we were in system, we had some great moments. I’m proud of the girls for an overall strong season.”

For the Blue Devils, Madison Kirkwood racked up 14 kills and a block, and Mackenzi Branchman had 6 kills and 4 blocks. Mckenzie Shatzer provided 27 assists. Alayna Welsh led in digs with 16, while Shatzer had 14 and Kiley Burkholder added 13.

James Buchanan (11-2, 10-2 MPC) will play in the District 3 Class 3A quarterfinals on Thursday. The Rockets are currently seeded No. 5.
