Blazers drop tight match to Goretti

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers wrapped up their girls volleyball season Monday by dropping a 3-2 decision to St. Maria Goretti in a non-league match.

“We ended our season with a well-played, hard-fought match,” said Blazers coach Carol Rosenberry, whose team finished with an 11-7 record.

The Mason-Dixon Christian Conference runner-up Blazers took the first game from Goretti 25-18 and the third 25-16. Goretti recorded wins of 25-19 in the second game, 25-19 in the fourth and 15-9 in the deciding game.

Leading the Blazers in kills were Emilee Beam with 20 and Morgan Householder with 15. In digs, Householder topped the team with 24, followed closely by Ryleigh Timmons with 23. Beam added 14 digs and Niki Schussler had 12.

In assists, Regan Bard had 36 to lead the Blazers, and Timmons added four. Kendra Bard had three blocks, while Beam and Sarah Vandersleen had two apiece. Householder and Beam each served a pair of aces.
