Blazers open playoffs with 3-1 win

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers advanced to the semifinals of the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls volleyball tournament by defeating New Life Christian 3-1 Tuesday evening.

The Blazers (10-5) will play on Thursday at Faith Christian in Martinsburg, W. Va., in the MDCC semifinals. The Blazers split two matches with Faith during the regular season.

The Blazers took the first two games, 25-16 and 25-20, before New Life responded with a 25-20 victory in the third set. The Blazers finished off the Rams with a 25-18 victory in Game 4.

Leading the Blazers in kills were Morgan Householder with 17, Emilee Beam with 16, Kendra Bard with five, Regan Bard with four and Niki Schussler with two.

In digs, Schussler led with 12, Beam and Ryleigh Timmons each had 11, and Householder had six. In assists, Regan Bard led with 31 and Maddie Eberly contributed five. Sarah Vandersleen had a team-high five blocks.

The Blazers served 26 aces. Kendra Bard and Regan Bard led with six each, followed by Householder with five, Timmons with four, Beam with three and Eberly with two.
