G-A roundup: Girls volleyball team blanks Big Spring

Greencastle 3, Big Spring 0: The Blue Devils won a pair of tight games against the Bulldogs and picked up a 3-0 Mid Penn Colonial victory on Tuesday evening.

G-A (6-2, 6-2 MPC) won games of 25-23, 25-14 nd 25-23.

“We started out pretty lethargic and we were out of system more than in system but the girls brought their best when the game was on the line,” Blue Devil coach Corry Eagler said. “I was very proud of the girls for finishing two tight games.”

Mckenzie Shatzer led the way for Greencastle with 15 service points, including 3 aces, 23 assists and 9 digs. Madison Kirkwood came through with 9 kills, 4 blocks and 9 digs.

In addition, Gia Dasilva had 10 digs, 5 kills and 3 aces, Mackenzi Branchman had 8 kills, Kalea Fugate had 9 points and Lauren Pool made 3 blocks.

Boiling Springs 4, Greencastle 0: The injury-limited Blue Devils, which had defeated the Bubblers 3-0 earlier in the season, were defeated by them Tuesday night in a Mid Penn Colonial game.

Greencastle is now 6-3-1 (6-3-1 MPC); Boiling Springs, which opened the scoring with a pair of penalty kicks in the first half, is 7-2 (7-2 MPC).

G-A coach Aric Bruner said, “I thought the boys played a gritty game tonight. Boiling Springs is a very disciplined team that likes to take advantage of mistakes. I thought we had the run of the play in the first half until (the penalty kicks). A lead like that for a very system-oriented team like Boiling Springs is almost an impossible hill to climb. We are hoping to get some guys back and healthy for the stretch run of our season.”
