First-place Calvary sinks Blazers

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers played first-place Calvary tough but dropped a 3-1 decision in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls volleyball match Thursday.

The Blazers (9-5, 8-4 MDCC) will go into next week’s MDCC playoffs as the No. 3 seed, most likely against New Life Christian.

Calvary (11-1 MDCC) won the first two games 25-18 and 25-22 before the Blazers charged back to claim a 25-14 victory in the third game. Calvary then wrapped up the match with a 25-21 victory.

Kills leaders for the Blazers were Emilee Beam with 23, Morgan Householder with five, Kendra Bard with four and Niki Schussler with three. Leading in assists were Regan Bard with 28 and Maddie Eberly with four.

In digs, Ryleigh Timmons led with 23, followed by Householder with 12 and Beam with 11. Timmons also served three aces, while Householder, Regan Bard and Kendra Bard served two apiece.

Calvary won the JV match, 2-0.
