Waynesboro volleyball remains undefeated, hands JB first loss

Brianna Gladfelter

Both the Waynesboro Maidens and James Buchanan Rockets entered the night with matching 5-0 records and an exciting night of volleyball lie ahead.  Waynesboro was victorious over the host James Buchanan 25-14, 25-19, 27-25.  The Maidens were led by the senior duo Gracie Vaughn 16 kills, 5 blocks and Sophia Johnson 10 kills, 3 blocks and 2 digs.  “The service line won us the match this evening. Brianna Gladfelter and Madi Boltz both had multiple point runs each set that catapulted us to victory. Emily Channing, Leah Helman and Johnson also were stellar from the line.”  Channing added 3 digs and 22 assists, Helman 7 digs, 13 assists and 4 kills.  “We’re thankful to get out of the match with the win; however I know the girls wanted to play a much more consistent match and follow the game plan.  We’re focused on getting back on the practice court and work on execution before Thursday.”

The Maidens JV volleyball team won in two sets against the James Buchanan Lady Rockets with the scores of 25 – 20 and 25 – 13.  Offensively, Kylie Long was strong from front middle putting down eight kills for the team along with Maddie Warren who had four and Abby McElory and Autumn Scahill recorded two each.  Defense was once again sluggish and slow for the Maidens; however, the girls were able to work together and come out on top.

The team will be back in action on Thursday night, on their home court, to face the Northern Polar Bears.  JV will begin at 6PM with Varsity to follow.
