Boy’s Basketball 2/18/20 Fannett Metal Falls to Berlin

Berlin, Pa. – Fannett-Metal travelled to Berlin Brothersvalley on Tuesday evening for the first round of the District 5-A boys playoffs. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 41-6 lead after only one quarter of play. The Tigers used three timeouts in the first quarter of action, but simply had no answer for the high powered Mountaineer offense. While their offense continued to score at will, the Mountaineers defense was equally as impressive. Fannett Metal Coach Paul Coffman commented, “They made every possession difficult for us with constant man to man pressure. Offensively, they moved the ball with such precision, making the extra pass time and time again to create an open look, and they nailed it.” The Mountaineers led 71-20 at the half.

The Tigers played a good third quarter winning the quarter 16-8, but Berlin’s starters were already out of the game and the running clock was in effect. In the fourth both teams were deep into the bench as the Mountaineers came away with a 93-41 victory. Coffman said, “We tried to enjoy the playoff experience tonight, but they are a veteran team who is at a different level than us right now. I hope they represent District 5 well moving forward. We had some rough games this season, and with us being so young, it would have been very easy for these guys to have packed in this season, but they didn’t do that. They kept grinding all season and gained valuable playing time that will carry this team into the future. We will return all of our letter winners but one next season, and with a full off season to keep improving, I expect us to be much more consistent and competitive next year. I really enjoyed coaching this young squad and look forward to what lies ahead.”
