Ship girls dominate middle quarters to take down Trojans

CHAMBERSBURG — Shippensburg used a good second quarter to take control of a non-league girls basketball game at Chambersburg on Wednesday night, and then put the game away with a dominant third period.

The Greyhounds picked up a 54-32 victory over the Trojans by outscoring them 28-8 in those middle two periods.

Tori Rumbaugh, who led the Hounds with 19 points, dropped in a trio of 3-pointers in the decisive second quarter.

Also for Shippensburg (12-9), which is currently ranked No. 12 in the District 3 Class 5A rankings (16 teams qualify), Elke Staver and Chelcie Forrester each scored 15 points.

Chambersburg (4-16) got 11 points from Sydney Schmus, 9 from Madi Flythe and 7 from Bre’ya Clopper.

The Trojans hit seven 3-point shots, which accounted for all but 11 of their points. They scored only 3 points at the foul line and made only four two-point field goals.
