Shippensburg Falls to Dallastown in Overtime, 66-58

By Matt Kellam
Dallastown—The Shippensburg Greyhounds could only muster three overtime points, all from the foul line, while Dallastown put up 11 to take a 66-58 win in non-league action Monday night.

“Turnovers just killed us tonight,” said Shippensburg head coach Ray Staver.  “Our guards just need to do a better job of protecting the ball.”

Shippensburg, (15-5, 11-1 MPC), raced to a 17-12 first quarter lead behind Collin Taylors’ six points.

Anthony Smith scored six of his 15 points in the second as the Greyhounds led at the half, 31-28.

The Greyhounds had turnovers on their first four possessions of the second half as Dallastown erased the lead.  Shippensburg would come back to tie to send the game to overtime.

Coach Staver added, “They (Dallastown) are a long team.  They have 12 wins in the York/Adams division one and that’s pretty good.”

Taylor led the Greyhounds with 18 points.  Smith added 15 and Jayden Statum had 11.

Most of Dallastown’s scoring was done by two players, Roman Owens with 28 and Jaden Green with 21.

Notes: The Wildcats finish their regular season at 13-9.  With the loss, the Greyhounds are in sixth position in the district 5A playoff standings with two games remaining.  Collin Taylor finished one point short in hitting his career 1,000th point.  He’ll have an opportunity to achieve that in front of the home crowd Thursday night against East Pennsboro.
