CARLISLE — Chambersburg tallied 23 points in the fourth quarter to more than double its total to that point, and pulled away for a 43-35 Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over Carlisle on Friday night on the road.

“It was nice to have success in this game; I think it can change how we finish out the last two weeks of the season,” Trojan coach Justin English said. “I’m very proud of these young ladies. They gutted it out — they were down by 11 after three quarters and I told them they had to dig down deep and will yourself to a win.”

It was physical, foul-filled contest. The teams combined for 55 free throws and four players fouled out, three for the Herd (3-14, 1-11 MPC).

But Chambersburg (4-11, 2-9 MPC) made the most of the situation, sinking 21 of 33 free throws for the game to 14 of 22 by Carlisle. More importantly, the Trojans banged in 14 of 19 freebies in the fourth period.

“That’s the best we’ve shot fouls all year,” English said. “Their student section does a nice job and we made a lot of them right in front of them. And it’s a good thing, because I think we shot 9 of 56 from the field.”

In the fourth quarter, Erin Pattillo was 4-for-4, Madi Flythe was 4-for-5 and Anna Stonesifer was 3-for-4 at the line.

Kiki Walker led Chambersburg with 14 points, including 7 in the fourth quarter. Bre’ya Clopper added 8 and Pattillo and Sydney Schmus each had 6.

Maggie Thomas led Carlisle, which mustered only four points in the final quarter, with 18 points.

English said, “I’m proud of how this team has not quit all year. We’re 4-11, but it doesn’t feel that way in practices, in games or in huddles. I want to see them do well in the last two weeks.”
