Cumberland Valley Christian senior Kyleigh Teal reached the 1,000 career point plateau Tuesday evening as the Blazers defeated Grace Academy 51-22 in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls basketball game.
Teal needed 18 points coming into the game, and that’s exactly what she wound up with. She scored her 999th and 1,000th points on a layup in the fourth quarter.
“Kyleigh leading the way with 18 points and hitting her 1,000 is an awesome accomplishment,” Blazers coach Dylan Ward said.
Teal led the Blazers (10-3, 4-1 MDCC) in scoring, and her milestone was a precursor to the boys game in which her cousin, Caleb Eckert, also scored his 1,000th career point.
Also for the Blazers, Laurel Reitz scored 14 points, Amber Yanosik added nine and Mollee Stake scored seven. Also hitting the scoring ledger were Sarah Vandersleen with two points and Jalen Moats with a free throw.
The Blazers took control early, leading 13-2 at the end of the first period and 28-9 at halftime.
“We started off the game solid on defense, holding them to two points (in the first quarter),” Ward said. “We fed off creating turnovers. We had everyone play and do something positive, which was great. I like the way we play when we continue to get stops and push the ball.”
