Cardinals Move on to PIAA Field Hockey Tournament

The Forbes Road Field Hockey Team won their 21st District VI Championship without having to take the field. District VI has an open championship tournament and this year no teams other than Forbes Road entered. Second year coach Mindy Horne and her team have been preparing for their next game since October 17. Horne guided the Cardinals to last year’s championship win over Huntingdon 3 to 0 in her first year after taking over for long time Coach Carol Cline, who continues her recovery from an illness. Coach Horne commented, “This truly is a team of champions, they epitomize the word team with their dedication to each other and their desire to bring out the best in each other.”

Forbes Road will take their 14 and 2 record on the road to play a familiar foe in the second seed Oley Valley from District III. According to Horne, “We have tremendous leadership with our three seniors Hailey Dodson, Shelby Harnish and Harlie Strait.  They have been consistent examples for their teammates all season and they understand the type of play required at this level. I’m counting on them to take the helm like they have all season.” The game will played on Tuesday, November 5, at 4:00 at Exeter Township High School in Reading. The Cardinals fell to Oley Valley last year at the same site 5 to 0 in the first round of the tournament.
