Blazers turn in strong effort at NACA

The Cumberland Valley Christian Lady Blazers volleyball team finished the season with a strong showing at the NACA national tournament in Dayton, Tenn., last week.

The first day of play seeds teams in Division I, II, III or IV. Day one of play, the Lady Blazers finished in second place with a 2-1 record, advancing them to Division I/Division II pool play on day two.

Day two brought challenges as the Blazers faced the five-time Division I champions from 2015-2018, The Rock from Gainesville, Fla. The girls were definitely up to the challenge and put up a strong effort. Their second match of the day was against Calumet Christian School, Division I champion from 2010-2014, and again the Blazers put forth a valiant effort. The final match of the day was no different from the other matches as the girls stayed strong and played hard every point, eventual falling in three sets to GCAA of North Carolina.

The girls’ hard work on Thursday placed them as the 9th seed in Division II for Friday’s single elimination tournament. The Blazers played the 8th seeded team, Evangel Christian from Alabama, and after another hard-fought match lost in three sets.

“We are so proud of how well the girls played,” Blazers coach Carole Rosenberry said. “Each one of them played their hardest and contributed to our accomplishments. This year posed a difficult transition from last year’s loss of six graduating seniors. I expected it to be more of a rebuilding year, but the seven new varsity players made a quick transition to the demands of a higher level of play. The returning five players quickly helped form a team bond that grew as our season progressed, and it was clearly seen this week. We will lose two valuable seniors this year, but we are looking to the future and what will be in store for us next year.”
