NEWVILLE — Runners from Greencastle-Antrim earned runner-up finishes in both the girls and boys races in Class 2A at the District 3 cross country championships on Saturday at Big Spring.
Taryn Parks ran a personal best time of 17:40.4 for the 5K race to take second behind her rival, Northern York’s Marlee Starliper, who won in 17:21.8.
Parks’ time was 1:16 better than the third-place runner.
Her Blue Devil teammate, Isabella Weaver, was not far behind, taking fifth in 20:01.5, while Ashley Noblit was 49th in 21:46.4.
James Buchanan’s Claire Kriner was 50th (21:46.6) and her teammate Hailee Embree took 52nd in 21:50.3.
In the boys race, the Blue Devils’ Weber Long placed second, finishing only 2.5 seconds behind the winner, Ben Kuhn of Wyomissing.
Also, G-A’s Danny Miller was 20th (16:58.0), while for the Rockets, Brandon Boyer was 36th (17:33.4) and Owen Cooper was 63rd (18:08.4).
Parks, Long and Miller have qualified for the PIAA Championships next Saturday at Hershey.
