JB girls volleyball headed to districts

The James Buchanan Lady Rocket volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-2 road win at Shippensburg on Thursday.

The Lady Rockets won the first 2 sets 25-18 and 25-7, but Ship fought back and pulled out the next 2 sets (28-26, 25-23) to force a fifth and match deciding set. In the final set JB won 15-10.

JB is now 16-4, after winning its final 9 matches of the regular season. The Lady Rockets will now play in the District 3 Class AAA tournament, which starts Oct. 26. JB will be the No. 6 seed and will face Manheim Central (12-6), which is the No. 11 seed, at 3 p.m. at Garden Spot High School.

“We played at a high level for the first two sets tonight then I’m not sure what happened,” JB coach Erica Piper said. “Give Shippensburg credit – they picked it up and we got caught with our guard down. So while I am disappointed we couldn’t close it out in three sets, I am very proud of the girls for digging in and winning that fifth set. When we were 8-4 I told the girls I thought we had a chance to win out. They took that to heart and did that. Winning 16 matches is not easy and all the credit goes to these girls.”
