The James Buchanan Rocket football team finally broke its scoring drought, now it will try and snap its 4-game losing streak.
JB will host the Ceasar Chavez (DC) Eagles this Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Last Friday in a 29-6 loss to St. John’s Catholic, the Rockets (2-5) scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter for their first points in the last 15 quarters. The touchdown came on a pass from QB Sebastian Wise to Caden Stoner.
Chavez is 1-3-1 after losing 41-0 to Maret (DC) last weekend. Last year the Rockets beat the Eagles 42-14.
“They have the same big, stocky running back from last year and he did OK against us,” JB coach David Miller said. “They have another skill position player that seems a little shifty, but other than that they don’t seem to have a lot. I think this is a golden opportunity for us to get back in the win column, but we have to execute.”
Last week vs. St. John’s, the Rockets had 2 punts blocked (one returned for a touchdown), fumbled 3 times (one returned for a touchdown and Wise was sacked 8 times.
“This week in practice we’ve added some things to create some competition and energy,” Miller said. “We’re trying to get some energy out of the players because we haven’t been seeing that. It’s not like we’re not talented, but we’re not showing any energy or passion. It’s been frustrating in some of these game lately because we get something going, moving the ball, and then we have a bad snap, a fumble, a dropped pass or something.”
