Blazers earn No. 2 seed in MDCC

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers wrapped up the No. 2 seed in next week’s Mason-Dixon Christian Conference playoffs by defeating Heritage Academy 7-1 Tuesday in boys soccer.

The Blazers (10-5-2, 8-2-2 MDCC) have won seven of their last eight games, the only loss coming 2-0 last Saturday in a non-league game against St. James of Hagerstown, Md. They will most likely face New Life Christian in the first-round of the MDCC playoffs next week.

On Tuesday, the Blazers took the lead 15 minutes into the game when Kenneth Hott directed a shot into the net. The game remained 1-0 until about two minutes left in the half when Blaine Minnier headed in a corner kick from Noah Randolph.

Early in the second half, Heritage injected some drama into the game when Dylan Cline scored on a penalty kick. But three minutes later, Hott restored the two-goal margin with his second score of the game.

Caleb Eckert, Josh Rowe, Seth Bumbaugh and Gabe Beckering also scored goals for the Blazers. Hott and Noah Randolph each collected two assists, while Max Crawford, Samuel Shunk and Aaron Minnier added one apiece.

Jack Gabler made nine saves for the Blazers, who held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
