YORK — At the second day of the District 3 Golf Championships on Saturday, three golfers from Franklin County played well enough to qualify for the East Regional.
Waynesboro’s Devin Smith shot 74 for the second straight day (nines of 39-35) and ended up in a tie for fourth place in Class 3A boys. Smith finished four-over par, while Central York’s Carson Bacha ran away with the win, shooting a 66 to finish 10-under par. Smith posted birdies on No. 10 and No. 17.
James Buchanan’s Caleb Reath advanced in Class 2A boys, placing in a tie for sixth with Josiah Nissley of Pequea Valley. Reath shot 82 on Saturday and was one of eight 2A golfers to advance.
In Class 3A girls, Ella Lowry of Waynesboro got through by shooting a 77 on Saturday, putting her in sixth place. The top nine moved on. Lowry, who birdied No. 9, shot nines of 40 and 37.
The only other area golfer to compete Saturday was Chambersburg’s Jacob Carlin. He shot 44-40–84 to finish in a tie for 30th, which not enough to make the cut.
