Field Hockey 9/26/19 Cardinal Cagers Down Southern Huntingdon

Forbes Road 5 Southern Huntingdon 0

Waterfall, Pa. – Two very determined field hockey teams met up in Waterfall on Thursday afternoon. The Forbes Road Cardinals (6-1) were determined they were going to score and the Southern Huntingdon Rockets were determined to shut down their every scoring opportunity. The domineering Cardinal stickers had many, many opportunities, but the cage was just not their friend until late in the game. Some of their shots went wide by just inches, others ricocheted off the keepers pads to go out of bounds and they even had several fluke situations where attempted shots bounced off the goal posts. Finally, after 17 first half shot attempts Kaelonni Lashinsky (who eventually ended up with a hat trick) was able to capitalize on a loose ball during a frenzy in front of the cage to score with 5 minutes left in the half.

Both teams took the field for the second half just as determined and tenacious as they started the game. Forbes repeatedly found themselves with penalty corners, but it wasn’t until midway through the half that Harlie Strait and Emma Gelvin would be able to set Hailey Dodson up for her penalty corner goal.  Kaelonni Lashinsky would strike again for her second and third goals just minutes apart both assisted by Strait. Dodson sealed the fate of the Rockets with her second and final goal of the game with just two minutes remaining. The Rockets were able to get some balls through the midfield on the very dry, fast field but Cardinal goalie Katie Waite was untested in the cage.
