Mid Penn Conference girls tournament: Chambersburg had two girls compete in Wednesday’s Mid Penn tournament at Armitage Golf Club and both placed in the top 22 to qualify for the District 3 Championships.
Heather Sanbower shot an 85 and finished in a tie for ninth, while Megan Brandt was just outside of the top 10 with her score of 88.
Camp Hill’s Paige Richter won the event in a playoff after firing a 3-over par 75.
“I’m very proud of the girls,” Trojan coach Mark Yost said. “The goal was if you couldn’t win, you had to make sure you advanced to districts and they did that.”
The District 3 tourney for boys and girls is Oct. 4-5 at Briarwood G.C.
NOTE: In Monday’s Mid Penn boys tournament, James Buchanan pushed two golfers through to districts in Class 2A. Caleb Reath shot 76 at Dauphin Highlands and was tied with Trinity’s James Ulsh until Ulsh won in a playoff. The Rockets’ Larry Singer was fifth with a 94.
Lower Dauphin 5, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans (2-10) came up with some competitive sets against the Falcons, but were blanked in a non-league match Wednesday.
In singles, No. 1 Kirsten Gerhart and No. 2 Stormy Jackson each won five games, and No. 3 Kenna Shearer won four.
“We need to continue to work on the small things and finish the last week of the season strong as a team,” Trojan coach Josh Barwin said.
Cedar Cliff 3, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans improved a great deal from their first Mid Penn Commonwealth meeting against the Colts, when they were defeated 9-1.
Chambersburg is 2-8 (1-6 MPC).
