Forbes Road 6 Hempfield Area 1
Waterfall, Pa. – The Forbes Road field hockey team (1-1) hosted the Spartans from Hempfield Area for a noon game on Saturday. It took the Cardinals 18 minutes to get on the scoreboard, but once they found their groove they were unstoppable. Quincy McMath tallied her first goal on a pass from Shelby Harnish. Just four minutes later, Harlie Strait would score the first of her three goals on a rebound off the goal pads. McMath would strike again with just five minutes left in the first half on a reverse shot. The final goal of the first half for the Cardinals was again by Strait, this time with the assist coming from her sister Heidi Strait. Hempfield Area’s one and only shot on goal came on a hard free hit originating 60 yards downfield that appeared to be headed out of bounds. The ball instead clipped the left goal post and ricocheted back towards the oncoming Rachel Lundie who caught it and sent it over the goal line. The first half ended at 4-1 in FR’s favor.
FR Sophomore Kaelonni Lashinsky quickly kicked off the second half, scoring two minutes in on a rebound off the Spartan goalie. Harlie Strait finalized the day’s scoring with her third goal on a pass from Madison Hays with 12 minutes remaining in the game. JV – FR 8, HA 0
