The James Buchanan Rockets will hit the road for the first time Friday night and will try and regroup from their first loss.
Game 3 of the 2019 season for the Rockets will be at Fairfield with a 7 p.m. kickoff in the non-league game.
Last week, JB (1-1) trailed 7-0 at halftime, but Big Spring scored 3 touchdowns in the third quarter and stymied the Rockets offense, which produced only 24 yards and zero first downs with its 4 possessions in the quarter.
“We have to play 48 minutes and be more efficient,” JB coach David Miller said.”We have to catch the ball and be more focused. Defensively we need to play the whole game like we did in the first half last week.”
The Green Knights, who only have 25 players on their roster, are 0-2 and haven’t scored a point this season. Last week Fairfield lost 31-0 to Bishop Carroll and opened the season with a 77-0 loss to Penns Valley.
Garrett Stadler, one of only 2 seniors the roster, is the Green Knights top player. In last years 31-23 Fairfield win, Stadler returned a blocked field goal 84 yards for a touchdown and caught 3 passes for 25 yards.
“They run a variation of the Wing-T,” Miller said. “They will look to get Stadler the ball as much as possible.”
Season leaders for JB: OFFENSE – QB Sebastian Wise (15 of 38, 216 yards, 3 TDS, 1 INT); RB Hunter Smith (11 carries, 33 yds); WR Grant Ellis (5 catches, 132 yds., 3 TDS). DEFENSE – LB Caleb Wise (29 tackles), LB Logan Miller (28), and DL Daulton Bray (21).
