James Buchanan senior Jenna Mongold collected her 100th career hit in the Lady Rockets runner-up finish at the Central York softball tournament Saturday.

JB (11-3) opened with a 6-3 win over Governor Mifflin and then lost 11-2 to host Central York in the championship.

James Buchanan 6, Governor Mifflin 3: Mongold pitched a complete-game to lead the Lady Rockets past Governor Mifflin.

Mongold scattered 5 hits and struck out 8 for JB.

“Jenna pitched a good game in tough windy conditions,” JB coach Troy Pittman said.

JB took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Mongold singled, Maria Burkett walked and Kirstyn Atherton delivered an RBI single. Burkett later scored on a wild pitch and Lindsey Meyers, who was 4-for-4, smacked another RBI single.

“Lindsay had a big game hitting and our defense was flawless,” Pittman said.

Central York 11, James Buchanan 2: Despite the lopsided loss Mongold became the third Lady Rocket to eclipse 100 career hits.

A single in the first inning gave Mongold her century-mark hit. Later in the sixth inning Mongold smacked a 2-run homer. She joins Shania Fogelsonger and Taryn Miller in the JB 100-hit club.

“We didn’t win the game, but it was great to see Jenna reach her 100th hit,” Pittman said. “She works hard every day at practice and is having a special season.”

The Lady Rockets opened the game by loading the bases one out in the top of the first, but did not score. Central York turned around and scored 4 unearned runs in the bottom of the first off of 3 JB errors.

“It seemed we lost our momentum,” Pittman said. “We came out flat and had those 3 errors  and we never recovered. It was good to also get the younger players some varsity experience. We will put this game behind us and regroup for next week.”

Atherton also had 2 hits for the Lady Rockets.

Next games: Monday non-league game at home vs. Middletown, 4:30; Wednesday Mid Penn Colonial Division game at home vs. Greencastle-Antrim, 4:30. The winner of the G-A game will have sole possession of first place.
