Mercersburg boys win AA team title at Ship’s Roddick Invite

SHIPPENSBURG — Mercersburg Academy’s boys team took first place in four events at the 93rd annual Jack Roddick Track & Field Invitational at Shippensburg University on Saturday, and that earned the Boys Class AA team title for the Blue Storm.

Chambersburg placed fifth in Class AAA Boys and the Trojan girls were sixth in AAA, while Taryn Parks of Greencastle-Antrim won a gold medal in the 800 in girls AAA.

For Mercersburg, Alonzo Coleman took first place in the long jump (20-0.75) and triple jump (42-8.75), Aakash Koduru won the 3200 in 9:59.28 and Alexander Wood won the 2000 steeplechase in 6:55.49 — a minute and three seconds over the runner-up.

Parks cruised to the 800 title with a time 2:15.87.

For the Chambersburg boys, the 4 x 800 relay team of Joe Corwell, Aaron Maynard, Zack Yourkavitch and Trentin Overcash (8:25.17) and the 4 x 100 relay team of Jayden Jones, Karter Jones, Donovan Moses and Tyeshawn Worrell (42.78) both finished in second place, while the 4 x 400 team (3:35.94) was eighth.

Worrell also placed third in the 100 (10.74) and eighth in the long jump (21-5.75), and his time in the 100 set a school record.

Brock Harmon placed in the discus (6th, 139-7) and shot put (4th, 53-5.25). Tyler Luther also placed eighth in the pole vault with a personal-best jump of 13-6.

For Shippensburg, Dakota Arana tied for third in the high jump at 6-1 and Michael Reich was third in the 110 hurdles in 15.24. The 4 x 100 relay team of Delonte Wilson, Alex Sharrow, Isaiah Houser and Adam Houser was fourth in a school record time of 43.67.

For the Trojan girls, the 4 x 800 team of Maddie Kinton, Allie List, Anna DeGrange and Keira Whitehead also placed second, in 10:11.17, and the 4 x 100 team took fourth in 50.48. That team included Jacelyn Jones, Aniyah Jones, Taryn Robinson and Shanelle Burrowes.

Bre’ya Clopper placed in both hurdles events — sixth in the 100 (15.55) and fourth in the 300 (47.90). Also for Chambersburg, DeGrange was fifth in the 2000 steeplechase, Burrowes was seventh in the 100 hurdles, Sydnie Gilbert was seventh in the 100 hurdles and Madison Yost was eighth in the shot put.

McConnellsburg’s Hailey Dodson placed second in the girls Class AAA shot put with a throw of 35-11.25.
