Trojans muster only 2 hits in loss to Mifflin County

SCOTLAND — It wasn’t a mystery what was coming at the Chambersburg batters.

Mifflin County pitcher Brian Yetter threw 87 pitches and all but three were fastballs.

But the Trojans managed only two hits, struck out 10 times and were defeated 2-0 by the Huskies in a Mid Penn Commonwealth baseball game Monday afternoon at Greene Township Park.

“Almost every pitch he threw was a fastball, but we only made good contact maybe five times all game,” Chambersburg coach Scott Folmar said.

Hunter Stevens singled in the fourth inning for the Trojans’ first hit, and Brady Hughes grounded a ball down the left-field line for a double in the sixth.

Chambersburg batters came to the plate with a runner in scoring position four times, resulting in three strikeouts and a walk.

Meanwhile, in the first and third innings, Mifflin County had runners in scoring position with two outs and got RBI singles by Noah Wright and Evan Mock.

Despite allowing nine hits, Trojan pitcher Mason Yeager limited the damage, and the first run off him was unearned. He did not walk a batter and got plenty of outs when he needed to.

Folmar said, “It’s frustrating, because Mason has been fantastic in all three of his starts. He threw strikes all day, but he got no support from the infield early and at the plate.

“After the second inning, we made every play in the field, and that’s what we have to do. But you have to score runs to win a game.”

The Huskies (3-2, 3-2 MPC) struck for a run in the top of the first when Colby Bodtorf singled, moved to second on a poor pick-off throw to first, went to third on an error, then scored on Wright’s hit.

In the third, Max Oburn got a base hit, Bodtorf bunted him up and Mock’s single plated him.

Chambersburg (1-6, 1-4 MPC) mounted its only real threat in the fourth. Brandon Kissinger was hit by a pitch, and after two outs, Stevens delivered a single. Orlian Roman Reyes drew a walk — it was the first time Yetter had gone to a three-ball count — to load the bases.

But Yetter got a strikeout to end the threat.
