BOYS LACROSSE
Cumberland Valley 10, Chambersburg 8: The Eagles scored the last goal of the third quarter to break a 6-6 tie, then got the first three of the fourth period and held off a Trojan rally for a Mid Penn Commonwealth win Monday night.
“We played really well,” Trojan coach Paul Flohr said. “I couldn’t be more proud of our team’s effort tonight. It was an awesome game to coach and play in.”
Once CV went ahead 10-6, Chambersburg (2-6, 1-6 MPC) got goals from Aidan Brechbill (with 5:28 left) and Haden Ocker (2:53), but couldn’t get any closer.
Brechbill had three goals and Ocker had two, with Grayson Hopple, Thomas Elia and Austin Brookens notching one each. Klein Burkholder put up two assists and Hopple, Dom Marangoni and Brookens had one each.
Nash Bothe secured eight ground balls and won 13 of 21 face-offs, Ocker won four ground balls and goalie Angel Santos came up with eight saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Cumberland Valley 22, Chambersburg 4: Cumberland Valley proved to be too much for the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest .
“Our defense worked hard as a unit to shut down many Cumberland Valley offensive plays,” Chambersburg coach Keara Allshouse said. “I am proud of how hard they worked tonight.”
Ashlyn Bothe produced two goals for the Trojans (1-6, 1-5 MPC), while Emma Grimm and Ashley Bawell each had one.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Central York 3, Chambersburg 1: The Panthers won the first two games, both 25-22, the Trojans took the third 25-18, but Central York closed out the win in the fourth, 25-21.
“It was a great, close match,” Chambersburg coach Marta Helfrick said. “The team got better tonight, regardless the outcome. They showed much fight and desire, and we battled until the end. We can continue to work on consistency, especially on crucial points.”
Steven Swain led the way in service points with 17, Wes Newman had 15, Trey Stepler 14 and Colton Wright 12. Spencer Rajtik had 19 assists and Stepler added 16. In digs, Newman piled up 16, Stepler had eight and Josiah Picard seven.
At the net, Picard led with 10 kills, followed by Stepler with nine, William Simmers with eight and Jaylen Thomas with six. Simmers and Riley Laite each had four block kills.
