State College 3, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans evened the score 1-1 with a 25-18 win in the second set, but the Little Lions took the match by winning the last two, 25-18 and 25-22.

“State is a tough team,” Chambersburg coach Marta Helfrick said. “We really struggled early in the match to get going, but we eventually settled into our game. They did a very good job of making our blockers move and challenging our block. We served well and had great spurts. We just need some more consistency throughout the match to contend with better teams.”

Wes Newman had 21 digs and 13 service points for the Trojans (3-2, 2-2 MPC), and Steven Swain had 14 points and 11 digs.

Also for Chambersburg, Riley Laite led in kills with 9, Josiah Picard had eight and Trey Stepler had six. Spencer Rajtik had 17 assists and Stepler added 13. Rajtik added 11 digs and 13 points.

GIRLS LACROSSE
Trinty 19, Chambersburg 14: Ashlyn Bothe scored a career-high eight goals, but it wasn’t enough and the Trojans fell to the Shamrocks on Thursday in a Mid Penn game.

Also scoring for the Trojans (1-5, 1-4) were Emma Grimm (4 goals) and Ashley Bawell (2). The 14 goals was a season high.

Chambersburg coach Keara Allshouse said, “The girls turned up the intensity after a timeout during the first half. Our offense worked hard as a unit and out defense communicated really well.”

Trinity 14, Chambersburg 7: The Shamrocks bolted to an 8-3 lead by halftime and held off the Trojans in a Mid Penn game Thursday.

“We had too many turnovers in key spots when we were trying to make a run,” Chambersburg coach Paul Flohr  said. “We had good plays followed by bad plays.”

Three players scored two goals each for the Trojans (2-4, 1-4 MPC): Grayson Hopple, Thomas Elia and Haden Ocker. Klein Burkholder had a goal and two assists and Aidan Brechbill and Dom Marangoni each had an assist.

Flohr said, “Nash Bothe is a true warrior and gives everything he has from the face-off X. I couldn’t ask for more.”

Bothe had six ground balls and won nine of 22 faceoffs, and Andrew Shetter had five ground balls.

Mechanicsburg 5, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans had three close matches, but the Wildcats were able to capture all three to blank Chambersburg in a non-league match.

At No. 3 singles, LeShan Wilkinson of the Trojans (0-8) fell 4-6, 2-6 to Alex Labell, while at No. 2 singles, Sean Vessah dropped a 1-6, 3-6 match to Stefan Stoyanovic.

At No. 2 doubles, Chambersburg’s duo of Ryan Kemerer and Diego Siles was defeated 2-6, 4-6.
