Baseball – Indians Down Spartans in Season Opener

McConnellsburg, Pa. – Southern Fulton (1-0, 1-0 ICC) defeated McConnellsburg (0-1, 0-1 ICC) 14-9 on Tuesday after taking the lead late in the game.  The game was tied at nine with Southern Fulton Indians batting in the top of the sixth, when Colby Whiteside singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. The Indians earned the victory despite allowing McConnellsburg to score five runs in the second inning.  Lucas McClain and Weston Brunner each drove in runs during the inning.

The Spartans took an early lead in the first. They scored one run, when Brunner singled. SF notched five runs in the fifth inning.  The offensive onslaught came from singles by Isaac Fitz and Luke Fitz, triples by Gabe Stotler and Holden Stotler, and a groundout by Whiteside.

Fitz led the Indians to victory on the mound. Konner Pittman and Stotler entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Southern Fulton saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game.  Gabe Stotler, Issac Fitz, and Luke Fitz all managed multiple hits for Southern Fulton Indians.  Gabe Stotler led the Indians with three hits in five at bats.

McConnellsburg totaled 11 hits.  Z Sipes, Doogie Garlock, and Brunner each collected multiple hits. Sipes went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead McConnellsburg in hits. Luke Fitz picked up the win while Colton Mellott was tagged with the loss. Both teams return to action tomorrow (3/28) as Southern Fulton hosts Southern Huntingdon and McConnellsburg hosts Tussey Mt. both games begin at 4:30.
