For sure, the Chambersburg boys track & field team has some top-notch athletes who are likely to do well in the postseason meets and win a bunch of points in dual meets.

But the Trojans also have some areas in which some inexperienced guys will be counted on to pick things up quickly in order to score points.

“We are really deep in the sprints,” Chambersburg coach Bob Walker said, “but we have some areas of concern. We need to develop some guys in the hurdles and jumps — we are very raw. The weather hasn’t helped there, either.”

In the sprints, junior Tyeshawn Worrell will be the main man. He ran a 10.86 in the prelims at the District 3 meet to lead his heat, but was DQ’d in the semifinals.

In the indoor season, Worrell, senior Diontae Barbour, sophomores Nate Cooper and Donovan Moses broke the school’s 4 x 200 record by 3.5 seconds and qualified for the indoor states and indoor nationals.

Walker said, “We are deep in the sprints. Worrell is one of the best in districts and the younger guys are coming around. We should have excellent 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams.”

Other sprinters include Jonathan Jeffrey (jr.), Jayden Jones (so.), Kevin Lee (so.) and Donovan Moses (jr.).

In the distance events, senior Trenton Overcash is the leader, with senior Luke Myers, juniors Aaron Maynard, Joe Corwell, Ian Brechbill and Justin Maxwell and sophomore Brayden Boyd showing promise, and freshmen Ben Colli, Billy Prentice, Nick Monheim, Lane Kuhns and Zack Yourkavitch waiting in the wings.

Middle distance possibilities include sophomores Kenan Korkutovic, Tanner Luther and freshman Edis Korkutovic.

The 4 x 800 team, which included Overcash, Maynard and Myers, was seventh in District 3 last year.

Brock Harmon will score a bunch of points in the throws. He was eighth at the indoor state meet and last year took fourth in District 3 and 15th in the PIAA meet.

Other potential point scorers include juniors Garner Funk, Nate Hoffeditz, Terell Williams, Tucker Perry and Kyere Morton and sophomores Bryce Henry and Lee Foltz.

In the hurdles, senior Thomas Langdon, junior Thomas Romine and sophomore Connor Wright will compete, with newcomers Enrique Del Leon-Raya (jr.) and Michael Kelly (fr.) learning the events.

Tyler Luther (jr.) and Del Leon-Ray will handle the pole vaulting, and the high jumpers include Perry, Malaki Blair (so.), Ian Brown (jr.), Kisla Hilaire (so.) and Payden Leonard (fr.).

Worrell has a chance to be good in the long jump, and is joined by Hilaire, Brown and Adrieon Shines. Shines, Morton, Perry and Brown return to the triple jump. Others in the jumps are Williams, Blair, Lee, Elliott Jones (fr.), Leonard and Green.

Walker said, “We’re relying on kids from a lot of different sports — football, basketball, wrestling, soccer. So we are athletic, but we’re young as track & field athletes. But we should get better every week as the kids learn.”
