LEWISBURG — A pair of Chambersburg swimmers placed in the Class 3A 100 butterfly on Friday at the PIAA Swimming Championships at Bucknell University.
Senior Avery Barley and junior C.J. Pong bettered their qualifying times in the morning prelims, then bettered them again in the evening consolation final.
Barley posted a time of 50.82 to set the 14th-best qualifying time, and Pong was right behind in 15th at 51.04.
In the consolation final, Barley came in with a 50.06 to place 11th and Pong swam 50.98 to place 14th. The duo combined to score 9 points for the Trojans.
The 200 medley relay was also in action Friday and just missed getting into the consolation heat. Chambersburg had a time of 1:36.75 to end up in 17th place. The team included Barley (23.36 split), Michael Johnson (28.25), Pong (22.84) and Aidan McMillen (22.30).
Jacob Greenwood competed in the 200 freestyle and had an off day for him, putting up a time of 1:48.05, 5.5 seconds off his qualifying time, and ended up in 31st place.
Swimming continues Saturday at Bucknell, and the Trojans have competitors in three more events.
